Ingredients: 2 ¼ tsp. yeast

5 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1 ¼ cup milk, divided

1/3 cup butter, melted

2 eggs

1 tsp. salt


Fat for frying

Dissolve yeast in ¼ cup warm milk. Combine flour, yeast, sugar, milk, melted butter, eggs, and salt in a large mixing bowl.  Beat at medium speed 4 minutes. Cover and let rise until double in size. Roll dough out to ¼ inch thickness. Cut out round circles with a glass or a cookie cutter. Place 1 teaspoon jam on every other round and cover it with another round, pinching edges together.  Allow to rise again.  Deep-fat fry doughnuts until golden brown. Remove and place on paper towels to drain. Dust with powdered sugar when cool.
