Christmas Sugar Cookie Cutouts

1 cup butter
2 ½ tsp. vanilla
2 cups sugar
5 cups flour
2 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 Tbsp. milk
¼ tsp. salt

Combine ingredients, adding flour last. Chill dough one hour. Roll out and use cookie cutters to make shapes. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes on a greased cookie sheet. Let cool. Frost and decorate. See butter cream frosting recipe.

Butter Cream Frosting Ingredients:
1 2 lb. pkg. powdered sugar
1 stick butter, softened
½ to 1 cup milk
2 Tbsp. vanilla

Put 2/3 of the bag of powdered sugar into a bowl. Add stick of softened butter and ½ cup milk. Stir ingredients together. Add vanilla. Keep adding milk until the frosting is smooth and creamy. If you add too much milk you can add more powdered sugar until you get the right consistency. For chocolate frosting add 5 to 6 Tbsp. of cocoa. For colored frosting for Christmas cookies, divide the frosting into 5 bowls. Add a different food coloring to each bowl. Keep one bowl white.
