Buttermilk Pralines

3 cups sugar
2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
1 cup buttermilk
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
4 cups broken pecans
½ stick butter

Combine all ingredients, except pecans, in a 3-quart saucepan. Cook, stirring often, to 250o on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in pecans. Drop mixture by rounded tablespoons onto lightly buttered waxed paper; let cool.
